Book Talk with Mommy Blogger Neha Khanna
Let’s meet Neha Khanna – she is a mommy blogger and Jolly Phonics instructor who is extremely passionate about making children fall in love with reading. She believes that reading is a hobby that opens the door to self-discovery and visualisation.
All of Neha Khanna’s social media platforms and blogs reflect her love for guiding parents into helping their little ones rediscover learning. Her Facebook group called PearlBuds is a shining example of her excellent work towards this cause. The group offers support and encouragement to parents to raise creatively intelligent children, which is why we wanted to feature Neha Khanna in our ‘Book Talk’ blog series which aims to help parents with getting their kids hooked on reading.
So, without further ado, let’s get right to it!
Team GetLitt: Share with us a few of your favourite children’s books.
Neha Khanna: My favourites are Brown Bear and other similar Eric Carle books, and the Naisha series. Recently, the Indian publications like Pratham Books and Tulika have some amazing books that they have published – books like Gajapatti Kulapatti, The Dot and The Polar Bear are some of my classic favourites that my children love too.
TGL: What is a quirky reading habit you have (either when you’re reading with your child or by yourself)?
NK: I always need something to munch on while reading a novel or book.
TGL: What are your top 3 tips for getting your kids hooked onto reading?
NK: Firstly, Get books based on your child’s interests and likes. Secondly, read to them every day. Lastly, teach them everyday concepts using social stories.
TGL: Which is your favourite reading spot/somewhere you get the most reading done?
NK: My favourite place to read is a seat by the window in my room at my parent’s house. Plus, I love reading in my bed!!

TGL: Do your kids remind you of a particular protagonist from any book?
NK: My son is very young, but for now he keeps reminding me of the cuddly and cute – Winne the Pooh. He gives the cutest bear hugs and usually loves to wear just a crop top like Pooh, when at home.

TGL: Describe your favourite children’s book/novel in 5 adjectives.
NK: Colourful, Simple, Inspirational, Motivational and Fun.
TGL: What children’s novel would you love to see made into a movie, and who would you cast in it?
NK: It would be nice to see some children’s short story books by either Pratham Books or Tulika Publishers, turned into a series or movie. The cast should be similar to the actors in Malugi Days.

TGL: What Indian children’s book have you read recently that you and your children really love?
NK: Gajapatti Kulapatti is our all-time favourite. Currently, we are just starting to explore and read the Naisha series.
