The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! That’s right, we’re announcing the winners of the ‘Storytelling’ contest that was part of our first ever campaign – Every Story Needs To Be Told.
As the name of the campaign suggests we wanted to spotlight the art of storytelling. We achieved this through book reading sessions hosted by leading Indian children’s books authors, experts and publishers. All these videos are available on our blog – do take the time to check them out. The stories read out by these experts will surely add value to your storytelling sessions.
Kids Books Cafe, Duckbill, FunOkPlease, Ms Moochie and Pickle Yolk Books were our partners-in-crime in this endeavour and helped us choose interesting books to entertain children. A lot of these books chosen by our experts for their storytelling videos, are available in the GetLitt! Library.
We rounded out this campaign with a contest that called for parents to send in videos of their storytelling session with their children. If you’ve been following us on social media, you would have seen some of the contest entries that we’ve published. We’re over the moon about the response to the ‘Storytelling’ contest and appreciate every one of the 60+ entries we received. These videos include storytelling sessions with grandparents, parents and even siblings!
Originally we decided to have only five winners, but after reviewing all the entries we narrowed it down to six. It really was such a close competition. Alright, we’ve beaten around the bush enough, it’s time to get to the winners!
The Winners of the ‘Every Story Needs To Be Told’ storytelling contest are:
1. Suchi Choudhary. Book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by author Eric Carle
It’s never too early to start reading to kids especially when they’re as animated as Suchi’s little one. It was love at first sight with this video and we knew we had a winner on our hands!
2. Dr. Vimee. Book: Bablu and the Mouse by author Lavanya R.N
Dr. Vimee filmed her son and his grandmother doing a reading from Lavanya R.N’s book Bablu and the Mouse. We were charmed by the dynamic between these two and love that storytelling is a multi-generational activity!
3. Shubhi Sharma Ganesh. Book: The Last Tiger by author Rebecca Elliot
Listen to this little girl roar! We loved Lassya’s diction and storytelling abilities and that’s why she is our third winner for the contest. Just goes to show that some people are born storytellers!
4. Nishita Bakliwal. Book: Swami and Friends by author R K Narayan
We accepted all types of contest entries, even audio bites like this one by little Shloka who blew us away with her reading skills. Her competent and confident skills are what caught our attention and made her a winner!
5. Payal M. Book: Follow The Ants by author Amrutha Satish
Indian children’s books sound beautiful in all languages, this point was brought home by the video of Payal and her little one. They each take it in turns to read out the book’s text in both English and Hindi. What a great way to build confidence in two languages.
6. Heena Dhedi. Book: Thank You, Amelia Bedelia by author Peggy Parish
As soon as we saw this video of these siblings, we knew it was a winner. Storytelling isn’t just for the adults in the family – it’s just as fun for the small ones too! This older sister is doing an excellent job entertaining her little brother with a storytelling session!
