Tales of a Driftwood By Gangadharan Menon The book is about adventure and mostly unplanned travel. It is a beautiful written tale of places in India, which many have passed by, missing all the beauty and adventure which lie beneath. He combines travel, writing, insights, observations, descriptions, history, myth and legend with a rare skill. The author teaches us to see like a traveler, hear like a traveler and most importantly feel like a traveler. It was always a sleep-inducing read as I opened this (cubic-zirconium) diamond every night, to drift away from the mundane homework. I personally think that this book does not interest me but strikes a chord in my heart as I am one of those leisurely wanderers, who will casually observe the owl hopping to the next tree or the chameleon lazily lifting its head and nodding. the one who will stop to touch the rhododendrons or hike up a waterfall. I genuinely think this is an ode to the traveler at heart. My conclusion is that it is a must-read to those planning travel in the next few days or weeks. I rate this book a 3 out of 5. I am Ethan D'Souza. I am 12 years old, I live in Mumbai and I am a comic writer. I have currently written roughly about over a hundred comic books till now. Each one of them have a crucial balance between humor and fun and violence and hardship. I also am a game designer. I have designed two of them but have not programmed them.....yet. My motto is "Normal is Boring" and I stick to that when I write comics, design games, or even write book reviews (basically when I do anything) . Besides all of the things mentioned above I love to read books. Whether it's about a game or Marvel or DC comic books or adventure books like Three Men in a Boat, Robinson Crusoe or in this case, Tales of a Driftwood.

Tales of a Driftwood is not a travelogue. It doesn't tell us where to stay and when to go, instead it simply resides on the innumerable joys of travelling, especially when its not planned. The journey of the book covers almost 20 states in India and other places in foreign like Bhutan, Africa and many more. It has stories of man-animal coexistence and conflicts. Their stories that have been based on the natures history and study of humans is been written very nicely. The language of the book is quite simple and easy to understand as it is written in a layman's perspective. The sole purpose of the book is to encourage people to travel and explore the wonders of the world. Sir Gangadharan Menon who is writer-cum-photographer has written this book very nicely as the story kept on flowing, This can be read by all age groups above the age of 10.

This is a book by Gangadharan Menon, a well-known photographer and author who loves travelling the world. 'Tales of a Driftwood' is a collection of short stories of his travels both abroad and in India. The author stresses in the introduction that this is not a book which gives us information about where to stay and where to eat, rather that this is a collection of travel tales which are meant to be read and enjoyed. The stories, about places ranging from Malaysia to Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, are short and sweet. These are mostly about remote places in the lap of nature. The stories also contain relevant anecdotes related to problems in these places such as pollution. I enjoyed reading this book very much. I would recommend this book for both travel bugs and people who do not travel much but are eager to get started. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book review Tales of a Driftwood by Gangadharan Menon This is one of the book that can be carried by every person who wants to travel in India, Malaysia, Bhutan and Africa. We get to know about the places, the people there, the wildlife and it's history in a brief and enjoyable way. One story I really appreciated was 'the hill station inside a fort'. I was recently planning on going to Panhala so I can found this additional information very interesting. The writer writes it in a manner that the reader cannot resist going to these places and I am also looking forward to going to Panhala, Kerala, Tanzania and Assam. I would rate the book 3.5 stars This book is suggested to all the travellers who love nature and antique places.
